New details surrounding international discussions about Venezuela’s political future have sparked debate after reports revealed that opposition leader  was not included in early conversations about a possible post-Maduro government.

According to a Qatari source cited by CNN, talks held in January between U.S. and Venezuelan representatives focused on scenarios for a transition of power after the removal of former Venezuelan president. However, the discussions reportedly never addressed a formal role for Machado, despite her international visibility and outspoken opposition to Maduro’s government.
