The “Sin of Cremation” According to the Bible: Truth, Misunderstandings, and Faith

Does the Bible Explicitly Condemn Cremation?

One of the most important facts to understand is that the Bible never directly states that cremation is a sin. There is no commandment that forbids the practice, nor is there a verse declaring that a person who is cremated cannot receive eternal life.

In biblical times, burial was the most common tradition among Jewish communities and early Christians. Many well-known biblical figures, including Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Jesus, were buried rather than cremated. Because burial was customary, some believers came to view it as the preferred or more respectful method.

However, preference and commandment are not the same thing.
