Burial carried symbolic meaning in Christian tradition, especially because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many Christians viewed burial as representing hope in bodily resurrection and eternal life.

Additionally, ancient cremation practices were sometimes connected to pagan rituals in surrounding cultures. As Christianity spread, believers often separated themselves from those customs, reinforcing burial as the standard practice.

Over time, this cultural preference gradually led some people to assume cremation was spiritually wrong, even though Scripture does not explicitly teach that.
