A group of American passengers evacuated from a cruise ship linked to a hantavirus outbreak has arrived in , including at least one traveler who tested positive for the rare viral disease, according to health officials overseeing the response.

The passengers were transported back to the United States after disembarking from the affected vessel in Tenerife, where emergency screening procedures had been put in place amid growing concerns over possible infections onboard.

Authorities said the returning Americans underwent medical evaluations before traveling to Nebraska, where additional monitoring and treatment protocols are now underway.
