What the shape of your lips reveals about your personality

Where This Idea Comes From

The concept of reading personality from facial features isn’t new. It traces back to older beliefs like physiognomy—the idea that character could be interpreted from physical appearance.

Today, that idea has been repackaged into viral social media content. Instead of scientific studies, it’s often presented as fun personality “tests” or aesthetic psychology charts.

But modern psychology does not support these claims as accurate or reliable measures of personality.

Common Lip Shapes You’ll See in These “Tests”

Most viral posts tend to group lip shapes into a few categories:

  • Full lips: Often described as warm, expressive, or emotionally open
  • Thin lips: Sometimes labeled as reserved, independent, or logical
  • Heart-shaped lips: Linked to creativity or charm
  • Uneven or asymmetrical lips: Sometimes said to indicate uniqueness or unpredictability

These descriptions may sound convincing, but they are not based on scientific evidence.
