Trump-Xi Summit Could Define Future Relations

Political observers say a future Trump-Xi summit could become a critical moment in determining the trajectory of U.S.-China relations. During Trump’s presidency, relations between the two countries deteriorated sharply amid trade disputes, technology sanctions, and disagreements over the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, Trump has also repeatedly suggested he could establish a “strong personal relationship” with Xi to avoid direct confrontation. Analysts believe any negotiations between the two leaders would likely focus on trade, tariffs, military competition, and Taiwan.

Experts caution that Taiwan may prove difficult to negotiate because both Washington and Beijing see the issue as tied to national credibility and strategic influence.

“Taiwan is no longer a secondary issue in U.S.-China diplomacy,” said one Asia-Pacific analyst. “It is now central to the balance of power in the region.”
