The real question is not whether government agencies should be subject to scrutiny. They should. The question is whether policymakers are acting in the public interest or prioritizing political loyalty above practical governance.
If Republicans believe an agency is broken, they should make the case for fixing it. If they believe its mission is unnecessary, they should explain how its responsibilities will be managed after its disappearance.
What they should not do is dismantle an important institution simply because doing so is politically convenient.
