Put a roll of toilet paper in the fridge. Here’s why

How it’s supposed to work

Toilet paper is made from porous fibers designed to absorb liquid quickly. When placed inside a refrigerator (usually on a shelf or in a corner), it can:

  • Absorb excess humidity in the air
  • Help reduce mild odors over time
  • Keep the fridge environment slightly drier

Some people leave it in for a few days, then replace it once it feels damp or has absorbed odors.

Does it actually help?

The effect is modest. It won’t replace proper cleaning or stronger odor absorbers like sodium bicarbonate, which is widely used for neutralizing smells in refrigerators.

However, in small spaces or for short-term freshness, it can provide a slight improvement—especially if you don’t have other deodorizing options on hand.
