‘Pit crew’ car thieves arrested following over 250 Bronx heists: New York investigators

According to law enforcement officials, the suspects operated with unusual precision for street-level car thieves. Rather than acting individually, they worked in teams, each member assigned a specific role—similar to a racing pit crew.

Some individuals were responsible for breaking into vehicles, others handled ignition bypassing or electronic hacking devices, while additional members acted as lookouts or drivers for quick escapes.

This division of labor allowed them to steal vehicles in a matter of minutes, often before police could respond to the scene.
