The Crash That Turned Into a Race Against Time

According to early reports, the crash occurred when a vehicle driven by a teenager lost control on a Maryland highway and collided, causing immediate fire to erupt from the engine area.

Within moments, smoke began pouring from the car as traffic slowed and drivers pulled over. Several witnesses attempted to call emergency services while assessing whether anyone was trapped inside.

That’s when the NBC News reporter, who was traveling nearby, stopped and rushed toward the scene.

A Split-Second Decision

As flames intensified, the reporter approached the vehicle and found the teenage driver still inside, disoriented and unable to exit quickly.

With the fire spreading rapidly, there was little time to act.

The reporter reportedly forced open the door and pulled the teen away from the burning car, moving them to a safe distance just seconds before the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames.

Moments later, the car exploded — sending a fireball into the air that was visible to other drivers on the highway.
