Over the next few days, the pressure only grew. My aunt started bringing real estate agents to the property without warning. She talked loudly on the phone about developers and land value, acting as though I had already disappeared.

Then came the reading of the will.

The entire family gathered in the lawyer’s office downtown. My aunt sat confidently at the front, already smiling before the meeting even began. She clearly believed she knew exactly how things would unfold.

The lawyer adjusted his glasses, opened a folder, and began reading.

Most of the will was straightforward—small gifts, donations, family keepsakes. Then he paused.

“And regarding the farm…”

My aunt straightened immediately.

The lawyer continued.

“Ownership of the property, including all land, livestock, and assets connected to the farm, is to be transferred solely to my grandchild, who stayed by my side and helped me keep this farm alive.”
