The small tab or button located beneath many rearview mirrors can instantly reduce glare from headlights behind you, making nighttime driving safer and more comfortable. Automotive experts often refer to it as the “night mode” or “anti-glare” feature.
Older vehicles typically use a manual lever attached to the bottom of the mirror. Flipping the tab changes the mirror’s angle and switches to a dimmer reflective surface that reduces the intensity of bright lights from vehicles behind you. Newer cars may include auto-dimming mirrors that adjust automatically using light sensors.
