How to Wax Your Thread

  1. Cut the desired length of thread.
  2. Hold one end firmly.
  3. Pull the thread across the beeswax block one or two times.
  4. If desired, place the thread between folded paper and press briefly with a warm (not hot) iron to help the wax absorb into the fibers.
  5. Thread your needle and begin sewing.

Avoid applying too much wax, as excessive buildup can leave residue on delicate fabrics.

When to Use This Technique

Waxed thread works especially well for:

  • Hand stitching
  • Sewing buttons
  • Repairing clothing
  • Quilting
  • Embroidery
  • Leather crafting
  • Canvas and heavy fabrics

For delicate silk or lightweight fabrics, test first to ensure the wax doesn’t affect the material.
