How to Wax Your Thread
- Cut the desired length of thread.
- Hold one end firmly.
- Pull the thread across the beeswax block one or two times.
- If desired, place the thread between folded paper and press briefly with a warm (not hot) iron to help the wax absorb into the fibers.
- Thread your needle and begin sewing.
Avoid applying too much wax, as excessive buildup can leave residue on delicate fabrics.
When to Use This Technique
- Hand stitching
- Sewing buttons
- Repairing clothing
- Quilting
- Embroidery
- Leather crafting
- Canvas and heavy fabrics
For delicate silk or lightweight fabrics, test first to ensure the wax doesn’t affect the material.
