ICE agent shoots at a fleeing vehicle in New Jersey after the agent was hit by the suspect’s car, police say

The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Route 72 and Mermaid Drive in the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township. According to local police, ICE agents were attempting to take a suspect into custody when the individual fled the scene in a vehicle.

During the escape, the vehicle struck an ICE agent, police said. The agent then discharged a firearm at the fleeing vehicle, reportedly hitting it before the suspect drove away.

“The agent discharged his firearm at the vehicle, reportedly striking it,” the Stafford Township Police Department said in a statement. Authorities added that the suspect has not been located and it remains unclear whether anyone inside the vehicle was injured.
