Free-range hens have access to the outdoors for at least part of the day. Outdoor access allows chickens to express natural behaviors such as scratching, pecking, and foraging.
Keep in mind that the amount and quality of outdoor access can vary between farms.
Cage-free hens are not kept in individual cages but live inside barns or large indoor facilities. Although they have more room to move than caged hens, they may not have outdoor access.
