Gas prices near historic highs as Memorial Day travelers prepare to hit the road

Drivers on the West Coast are seeing the steepest prices. In California, average gas prices have climbed above $6 per gallon, while several other states are reporting averages exceeding $5.

Despite the financial strain, many Americans appear unwilling to cancel long-awaited holiday plans.

“Travel demand remains strong, and despite higher fuel prices, many people are prioritizing leisure travel during holiday breaks,” said Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel.
