A Complex Rescue Mission

Moving beluga whales is an enormous logistical undertaking. Each whale must undergo comprehensive health assessments before transport. Marine mammal specialists emphasize that relocating dozens of whales cannot happen overnight. Every transfer must be coordinated carefully to protect both the animals and the rescue teams involved.

Finding Suitable New Homes

One of the greatest challenges is identifying facilities capable of housing such a large number of belugas. Potential destinations must provide spacious habitats, experienced veterinary staff, and long-term financial support.

Some conservation organizations advocate for moving the whales to ocean sanctuaries—protected coastal areas where captive whales can experience more natural conditions while still receiving human care. Others believe accredited marine facilities may offer the safest immediate solution until additional sanctuary space becomes available.
