68-year-old woman’s arms and legs turn blue after taking very common drug

Experts explain that blue discoloration of the skin, medically known as cyanosis, can occur when oxygen levels in the blood drop or when circulation becomes impaired. In some rare cases, medications may interfere with normal oxygen transport in red blood cells or cause blood vessels to constrict abnormally.

Physicians treating the woman quickly discontinued the medication and began supportive treatment aimed at restoring circulation and oxygen levels. Reports indicate that her condition improved after the drug was stopped and appropriate medical care was provided.
