Appeals Court Rejected Trump’s Challenge

The federal appeals court recently declined Trump’s effort to dismiss Carroll’s defamation claims tied to statements he made while serving as president. Trump’s legal team has argued that his comments fell within the scope of his official duties as president and should therefore be shielded under federal protections.

Carroll’s attorneys, however, contend that Trump’s remarks were personal attacks unrelated to presidential responsibilities and should not qualify for immunity.

Following the appellate court’s ruling, Trump’s lawyers filed a request asking the court to pause enforcement of the decision while they petition the U.S. Supreme Court for review.
